City Hall, Hull - Project Budget Circa £400k

Energy Building Ltd was appointed via NPS Humber in 2017 to replace the Fire Alarm System, Intruder Alarm System and CCTV System within Hull City Council’s Grade 1 listed ‘City Hall’, on Victoria Square, Hull. The existing systems were obsolete, persistently in fault modes, and coming towards the end of their serviceable lives. While numerous attempts had been made to replace the systems, invariably one of the many difficulties would arise and the project would grind to a halt. Aside from being a Grade 1 listed building, a large amount of asbestos existed in many areas which would normally be used to route services. A number of privately tenanted retail units also exist within the perimeter of the building and would need to be included in coverage. To make the project even more challenging, the daily schedule of live performances within the busy venue would continue throughout the year with up to 1800 members of the public attending at any one time.

After first preparing a feasibility study, Energy Building compiled and submitted a successful historical planning application including negotiating with Hull City Council Planning Office in order to ensure that, not only would there be no detrimental affects to the building after the new installations but, if anything, the property would look even better. Energy Building then designed a wireless L1 Fire Alarm system, a wireless Intruder Alarm and Door Access system and a site-wide CCTV network, with central hub and remote access. Energy Building acted as project managers and oversaw all works over a 2 year period. Equipment installed includes Wireless Smoke Detection, Beam Detectors, Smoke Aspiration Systems, wireless cameras and interfaces to many third party system such as Boilers, Lifts, PA and Sound System, Ventilation and even a 6000 pipe organ. All work was delivered on time, under budget and both the client and tenant returned glowing KPI performance scores for Energy Building.
